The devices that are compatible with Family Link are the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL. The app is also compatible with the Android operating system on devices that are 7 inches or larger. Family Link allows parents to create a Google account for their child and then manage certain aspects of their child’s device use. For example, parents can set screen time limits, approve or block apps, and see what websites their child has visited.
To put Google apps on a Kindle Fire, first enable installation of apps from unknown sources by going to Settings > Security and enabling Installation of apps from unknown sources. Then open the web browser on the Kindle Fire and go to https://www.google.com/apps/ and click on the blue Install button next to the Google Apps for Education heading. In the pop-up window, click on the Install button again.
There are a few different ways to set up a Kindle for a child. One way is to create a child’s profile on the Kindle. This will allow you to select which books your child can see and read. You can also set parental controls on the Kindle so that your child cannot access certain content or purchase items without your permission.
When a child turns 13 on Family Link, their parent or legal guardian will be notified and the child will be granted access to more features of the app, including the ability to manage their own account. This includes setting up passwords, adding or deleting accounts, and viewing their child’s location history.
