Can we get gift cards with our Shoppers optimum points?
Sadly mentioning, the Optimum points we have cannot be redeemed for gift cards.
About Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum program
During the fall of 2008, Shoppers Drug Mart Canada initiated this program. Joining this rewards program will allow you to earn points when you shop at their stores. With enough points, you can redeem a discount of up to $170 on your next order (or more if you shop during Bonus Redemption days).
The points you earn can be redeemed
You can get so many things for free when you redeem your points at Shoppers Drug Mart. Since you don’t earn physical rewards but rather actual cash, you can spend it in-store on anything you like (with some exceptions). However, you cannot exchange points for cash or gift cards.
Your points can be redeemed on the following items:
The top items are cosmetics, food & beverages, baby products, pet products, books & magazines, gum & candy, health aids, electronics, gift sets, and household items.
You can indeed spend your points on thousands of different products, but some items cannot be purchased with your points. Among them are:
Any prescription drugs, products in which codeine is present, postage stamps, wireless phone cards, postal merchandise, passport photos, tickets provided by any number of ticket providers, cigarettes & tobacco, lottery tickets, bus tickets & passes, bill payments (where appropriate), delivery charges (where applicable), bottle deposits/returns, charitable donations, gifts with purchases, and any other items specified from time to time.
The following tips will help you earn Optimum Points faster:
If you are looking for basic groceries, household products, and health and beauty products, Shoppers Drug Mart is typically quite expensive. Often, this is what tangles people up with the Shoppers Optimum Program.
You can earn Optimum Points faster by following these six easy steps
- Using a gift card, you can make a purchase. You should plan ahead how much you will spend at Shoppers Drug Mart and then buy a Shoppers Drug Mart gift card equal to that amount when you walk into the store. For example, are you going to spend $50? From the cashier, purchase a $50 gift card, and then shop as you wish. What’s the point? Of course, to earn points! I’ll tell you how. If you purchase a Shoppers Drug Mart gift card, you will earn regular Optimum points.
If you hand over your Optimum card at the counter when you buy a $50 gift card, you’ll earn 500 points (so be sure to give it to the cashier). You get 500 points for just $50 you were planning on spending anyway! Shop away! After you cash out, you’ll be able to receive 500 Optimum points just for paying with your $50 gift card! It’s such a simple way to earn double the points without spending twice as much. It’s important to keep in mind that other gift cards don’t earn Optimum points. These points are available only with Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards. The possibility of earning Optimum points when buying other gift cards does exist on occasion, but this does not always occur.
Shoppers Optimum Mastercard is the best way to use it when you are making purchases. Shoppers Optimum Mastercard customers can earn Optimum points quickly by using it. Shoppers Optimum Mastercard customers will earn 25 points per $1 purchase instead of 10 points per $1 purchase when using the card at any Shoppers Drug Mart location. Additionally, you’ll earn 5 points for every $1 you spend on anything else (restaurants, hotels, clothing stores, etc.). This card comes with no annual fee, and you’ll receive 15,000 bonus points with your first purchase. Optimum points will be offered to cardholders of the Royal Bank of Canada’s new debit card beginning March 17, 2012. Additionally, when you open an account, you will earn 50,000 Optimum points!
Do your shopping on bonus point days only. Bonus points days are one of the best ways to earn loads of points through this rewards program while spending very little money out of pocket.
A bonus point event worth 20 times as many points is by far the most popular at Shoppers Drug Mart. With the minimum purchase amount (usually $50 or $75), you will earn 20x the points. You would earn 200 points per $1 instead of just 10 points per $1. At the $50 minimum event, spending $50 will earn you ten thousand points. Isn’t that great?
Conclusion
One of the programs that are highly recommended is the Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Rewards Program. In our opinion, Optimum program has no comparable program in Canada. In a nutshell, it can be concluded that optimum points from shoppers cannot be redeemed for gift cards. In order to benefit from all their great deals, you should join Shoppers Drug Mart if you are not already a member.
